Dongdaemun-gu Supports Safety Equipment to Prevent Falls Among Seniors
Support of Safety Items Including Anti-Slip Mats Within 200,000 KRW Per Household for 102 Low-Income Elderly
Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 21st that it has provided safety supplies such as non-slip mats for bathrooms to low-income elderly households to prevent falls among seniors occurring at home.
The district received recommendations for 102 seniors aged 65 or older, who live in poor housing conditions or are at risk of safety accidents such as falls, from elderly customized care service agencies. After individual visits to the recipients' homes, fall risk assessments were conducted and necessary items were identified through consultations.
Since September, up to 200,000 KRW per household has been allocated to install 10 types of customized safety supplies, including ▲non-slip mats ▲safety handrails ▲bed rail handles ▲step risers ▲remote controls for lights and small appliances ▲rechargeable canes. To raise safety awareness, fall prevention education was provided during the installation of safety supplies, and educational booklets were distributed.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “Falls among the elderly can lead to serious injuries such as fractures of the wrist, spine, and hip bones, requiring long-term treatment. We have supported fall prevention safety supplies so that seniors can live in a safe and comfortable environment.” He added, “We will continue to provide meticulous support to ensure a safe and happy old age.”
