Handonghun Visiting Daejeon, Addresses Candidacy Rumors: "Fully Explained... Doing My Best in My Work"
Han Dong-hoon, Minister of Justice, visited Daejeon on the 21st and dismissed speculation about running in the general election, saying, "I think I have already said enough," and added, "I am doing my best in my work."
On the same day, Minister Han attended the opening ceremony of the Daejeon Korean Language Proficiency Evaluation Center (CBT), a social integration program evaluation system under the Ministry of Justice, and stated, "Attracting outstanding foreign scientific talents and ensuring that foreign workers properly acquire Korean language skills to build a basic foundation for living well with our citizens is an 'important task' for me."
At the opening ceremony, Minister Han said, "With changes in the population structure, there are also significant changes in the scientific talent workforce structure. Among 11,000 KAIST students, 1,500 are foreign researchers," and added, "We will drastically change visa policies so that important foreign science and technology talents do not leave our country due to visa and future uncertainties but can continue their research here." In the afternoon, Minister Han moved to KAIST and held a meeting with KAIST President Lee Kwang-hyung and foreign students regarding the visa system for outstanding science and technology talents.
Regarding the consecutive field visits following his visit to Daegu on the 17th, he said, "I just couldn't make field visits earlier because of continuous National Assembly schedules," and added, "Compared to previous Ministers of Justice, the number of my field visits is probably fewer."
In response to Democratic Party lawmaker Ahn Min-seok's mockery of his long stay responding to photo requests from citizens during his visit to Daegu as a 'political show,' Minister Han stated, "The citizens at Dongdaegu Station on Friday night were busier and spent more precious time than I did," and added, "It is only natural to show a small gesture of sincerity to those who are there with good intentions."
Regarding the Democratic Party's push for prosecutors' impeachment, he criticized, "I recently saw Representative Lee Jae-myung respond to media questions about frequent impeachments by saying it was about balanced national development," and said, "I think the Democratic Party and Representative Lee should not brush off such questions like that but answer properly."
