A man in his 50s arrested and indicted on attempted murder charges
A man in his 50s who indiscriminately assaulted and attempted to kill a teenage girl walking down the street because her laughter annoyed him has been brought to trial.
The Criminal Division 2 of Jeonju District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Hwang Seong-min) announced on the 21st that Mr. A (50) was arrested and indicted on charges of attempted murder. Mr. A is accused of hitting Ms. B dozens of times with a blunt weapon and his fists and strangling her to death on a road in Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeollabuk-do, around 10 p.m. on the 27th of last month. At the time, Professor Kim Tae-jin of Jeonbuk National University, who witnessed the incident, rushed to the scene and separated Mr. A from Ms. B.
Subsequently, the police who responded to the report arrested Mr. A in the act.
Investigations revealed that Mr. A committed the crime because he was annoyed by the sound of Ms. B’s laughter while she was walking and talking on the phone. It was confirmed that the two had no prior acquaintance.

A prosecution official stated, "The prosecution is supporting the victim with medical expenses and helping her regain psychological stability," and added, "We will also strive to maintain the prosecution so that the defendant receives punishment commensurate with the crime."
