The Status of Jipo Kim Gu and Buan Dodongseowon in Korean Confucian History
Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do (Governor Kwon Ik-hyun) announced on the 21st that it will hold an academic conference titled "The Status of Jipo Kim Gu and Buan Dodong Seowon in Korean Confucian History" at 1 p.m. on the 24th in the main auditorium on the 2nd floor of Buan-gun Office, together with the Honam Classical Culture Research Institute.
Marking its 13th year, this academic conference is hosted by Buan-gun and Jeollabuk-do and organized by the Honam Classical Culture Research Institute (Chairman Kim Ki-hyun).
The conference highlights the significance in Korean Confucian history of Jipo Kim Gu, who played a major direct and indirect role in introducing Neo-Confucianism as a new philosophy to the late Goryeo period, and the achievements left by his two sons. It also dedicates time to researching and discussing the historical significance of Dodong Seowon, Korea’s first seowon (Confucian academy).
The keynote speech titled "The Significance of Joseon Neo-Confucianism and Ban-gye Silhak" will be delivered by Professor Yoon Jae-min, an emeritus professor at Korea University and former president of the Korean Silhak Society, followed by five thematic presentations.

The academic papers include ▲"The Definitive Edition and Complete Annotations of Jipo Kim Gu’s Classical Chinese Poems" (Moon Hye-jung, Jeonbuk National University) ▲"The Status of Gangneung Hyanggyo Rebuilt by Kim Seung-in, the Fourth Son of Kim Gu, in Korean Confucian History" (Park Do-sik, Gangneung-Wonju National University) ▲"The Significance of Buan Dodong Seowon in Light of Ju Sebung’s Reverence for An Hyang and the Founding of Baegundong Seowon" (Kim Byung-ki, Jeonbuk National University) ▲"Jipo Kim Gu and the Early Yuan Confucian Circle" (Lee Won-seok, Chonnam National University) ▲"Important Epigraphic Studies on the Descendants of Jipo Kim Gu" (Kim Jin-don, Cultural Heritage Committee Member of Rabuk Province).
Following this, a panel discussion will be held with Professor Lee Ui-gang of Wonkwang University’s Chinese Education Department as the chair, and regional researchers and experts in related fields including Jang Chun-seok (Chonnam National University), Choi Ki-soon (Gangneung Hyanggyo Jeongyo), Lee Sang-gyun (Korean Confucian Culture Promotion Institute), Yoon Yong-hyuk (Kongju National University), and Cho Soo-hyun (Wonkwang University) participating.

Kwon Ik-hyun, Governor of Buan-gun, stated, "This academic conference will be an opportunity to inherit and develop the academic and spiritual legacy left by Kim Gu, and to solidify the significance and value of Dodong Seowon in Korean Confucian history."
