Over 200 Residents Attend Groundbreaking Ceremony on 20th to Celebrate and Pray for Safe Construction

Strengthening Administrative Services as a Complex Space for Residents and Local Entrepreneurs to Coexist
Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) is establishing a new administrative complex building in Sogong-dong. On the 20th, the district held a groundbreaking ceremony attended by over 200 residents to share the joy of constructing the new building and to pray for safe construction.
The Sogong-dong Community Center building is 52 years old, worn out, and cramped. Although there are only about 2,000 residents in the neighborhood, the number of civil document issuances is the highest nationwide. This is because many businesses nearby concentrate large-scale document issuance tasks in Sogong-dong. The first-floor civil service office is always crowded with people coming for services, but there is hardly any waiting space.
The community hall's lecture room is so small that it cannot accommodate more than 10 people, limiting program operations. There is no elevator, making it quite inconvenient for elderly users. When the new administrative complex building is completed in 2026, Jung-gu is expected to resolve residents' inconveniences and provide a higher level of public services.
The Sogong-dong administrative complex will be built on 843.2㎡ across five lots including 122 Seosomun-dong. It will be a building with three basement levels and 11 floors above ground, with a total floor area of 6,484.06㎡. The first and second floors will house the community center's civil service office, the third floor will have the community hall, and the fourth floor will include a senior citizens' center and a public officials' lounge. Reflecting the area's commercial district characteristics, the sixth floor will host the Social Economy Integrated Support Center, and the seventh to tenth floors will accommodate the Smart Startup Support Center.
Jung-gu will construct the new building through a donation agreement linked to the Seosomun District 11 and 12 urban redevelopment projects. Building a new office in the expensive land of downtown Seoul requires a huge budget. At a time when tax revenues are declining and finances are tight, residents' satisfaction and expectations are high upon hearing that valuable space is being created through public contributions.

The new building will be developed as a regional hub where not only Jung-gu residents living in the city center but also businesspeople can coexist and prosper.”
