Seongdong Smart Fashion Center Expansion and Relocation
Seongdong-gu Expands and Relocates Seongdong Smart Fashion Center to Support Not Only Automatic Cutting but Also Market Development
One-Stop Support from Clothing Photography to Shopping Mall Setup, Creating a Hub Space for Startups and Collaboration
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Wono) has expanded and relocated the Seongdong Smart Fashion Center, a space that supports startups and collaboration for small-scale fashion and sewing businesses.
Newly established in Haengdang-dong, Seongdong-gu, the Seongdong Smart Fashion Center spans 297.54㎡ and includes a shared cutting room equipped with automated cutting support. Along with the relocation, the district added a multipurpose space for exhibitions, sales, and education, as well as a creative studio with product photography facilities. Additionally, courses on photography and editing for shopping mall operation, as well as promotion and sales strategy lectures, will be offered to prospective entrepreneurs and manufacturing workers.
Moreover, an online platform called the ‘Fashion Sewing Job Matching Online Platform’ will be launched, allowing users to search for information on related companies such as clothing planners, startups, sewing companies, and other garment processing businesses all at once. The district plans to build a diverse database of companies and connect designers with sewing companies to help create jobs.
With the relocation of the Seongdong Smart Fashion Center, local manufacturers facing difficulties in market development will receive one-stop support from product photography to shopping mall setup. The district intends to develop the fashion center as a hub space not only for startups but also for collaboration among designers, creators, and manufacturers.
Since opening in Wangsimni Doseon-dong in April 2021, the Seongdong Smart Fashion Center has helped small-scale clothing manufacturers quickly cut large volumes of fabric using smart advanced equipment, reducing costs. To date, the fashion center has supported the cutting of approximately 290,000 garments for small businesses.
Seongdong-gu has also actively worked to improve the poor working conditions of clothing manufacturers. Over the past three years, it has provided support worth approximately 1.18 billion KRW for supplies and facility improvements to 164 companies to enhance their work environments.
