US Influencer Experiences 'Speech Paralysis' After Sleeping with Scented Candle Lit
Causes Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Symptoms
Do Not Smoke in Enclosed Spaces
A famous American influencer revealed a story about nearly losing her life after burning scented candles and sleeping at night. Since scented candles emit harmful substances such as carbon monoxide, caution is necessary when using them.
According to foreign media including the New York Post on the 16th (local time), TikTok influencer Emi Moore (22), who has over 900,000 followers, recently shared her experience of being hospitalized due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
She said she lit five scented candles in her bedroom and went to bed, but then felt her body was acting strangely. Moore explained the situation at the time, saying, "As soon as I got out of bed, my heart was beating extremely fast, so I went straight to the hospital," and "It felt like all my bodily functions were shaking."
She added, "I couldn't remember what I had just said and eventually experienced speech paralysis," and "I saw double, and also had chest pain and dizziness."
The medical staff diagnosed Moore with symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and prescribed an oxygen supply. Fortunately, Moore was able to recover after resting. The video sharing Moore's experience became a hot topic on TikTok, recording 850,000 views.
Scented candles are made from paraffin, a petroleum derivative, and synthetic fragrances. Because of this, they emit various harmful substances including carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is colorless and odorless, making it difficult to detect its presence in the air, and prolonged exposure can be life-threatening.
