Jeju Fire Department Selects 306 Members for 'Heart, Brain, Trauma Saver' Program

The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Fire Safety Headquarters (Chief Kim Su-hwan) announced on the 20th that a total of 306 people, including 8 ordinary citizens, were selected as the Heart, Brain, and Trauma Saver recipients for the third quarter of 2023 for saving precious lives of patients with cardiac arrest, cerebrovascular disease, and severe trauma.

Heart Saver refers to a person who revived the life of a cardiac arrest patient using cardiopulmonary resuscitation or a defibrillator, and Brain Saver refers to a person who contributed to minimizing aftereffects by promptly and accurately assessing and transporting acute stroke patients.

Jeju Fire Headquarters selected a total of 306 paramedics who saved precious lives of patients with cardiac arrest, cerebrovascular disease, and severe trauma as Heart, Brain, and Trauma Saver recipients.

Trauma Saver is one of the three major certification systems awarded to those who contributed to maintaining life and reducing disability rates through appropriate treatment and transportation of severe trauma patients.

So far, the Jeju Fire Headquarters has selected 1,769 paramedics and ordinary citizens who saved precious lives of residents as Saver recipients through the Heart Saver (since 2006), Brain Saver (since 2019), and Trauma Saver (since 2019) certification systems.

The Heart Saver program has been operating since 2011 with a total of 1,434 recipients, while the Brain and Trauma Saver programs have been implemented since 2019, selecting 185 and 150 recipients respectively.

Meanwhile, on the 17th, the Fire Safety Headquarters directly awarded the Heart Saver to four people, including a fire officer and a couple from the National Health Insurance Service, who performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a drowning patient that occurred during water play at Panpo Port, saving a precious life.

Chief Kim Su-hwan said, “The heroes who showed courage to protect others' lives by demonstrating a strong sense of professionalism and mission have become role models for Jeju Fire Safety, prioritizing the safety of residents. We will continue to raise awareness about the importance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation performed by first witnesses to create a safer Jeju.”
