Wando-gun to Officially Open Korea's First 'Marine Healing Center' on the 24th
Equipped with 16 Healing Therapy Facilities Utilizing Marine Resources
High Satisfaction Among Pilot Operation Visitors, Inquiries Flood in Before Opening
Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 20th that the Marine Healing Center, the first of its kind established in Korea, is about to begin full-scale operation as a core facility of the marine healing industry, with a total floor area of 7,740㎡ and 16 healing therapy facilities.
On the first floor of the center, visitors can use five programs including the largest seawater pool, the ‘Thalasso Pool’.
At the ‘Thalasso Pool,’ various underwater exercises such as underwater Nordic walking and air bubble water pressure massages are available, which help with full-body relaxation, pain relief, and muscle soreness alleviation.
The ‘Seawater Mist’ sprays seawater in fine particles, allowing inhalation of marine aerosols that aid in improving respiratory diseases. At the ‘Meditation Pool,’ stretching with the help of a professional instructor while floating on water is effective for tension relief, stress reduction, and insomnia alleviation.
‘Mud Therapy’ involves applying natural mud collected from Wando to the body, which is good for toxin elimination and skin improvement. ‘Seaweed Foam Therapy’ uses foamed nutrients from seaweed applied and massaged over the entire body to help with skin regeneration and improvement.
‘Meditation Pool’ and ‘Seaweed Foam Therapy’ were identified as the most popular programs based on surveys conducted with participants during the pilot operation period.
On the second floor, 11 programs are available. First, visitors can undergo body shape analysis and skin condition measurement in the health measurement room, then use personalized programs.
The 11 programs consist of wet therapies such as seawater pools, steam showers, Vichy showers, bath therapy, low-frequency therapy, and seaweed mud wrapping, as well as dry therapies themed around the five senses including color, sound, music, fragrance, and stone therapy.

‘Seaweed Mud Wrapping’ involves mixing seaweed or seaweed powder with seawater or mud and applying it to the skin, which is effective for reducing swelling, relieving arthritis pain, and improving skin condition.
Additionally, there is a GX room where visitors can do Pilates and yoga, and a resting area where they can enjoy tea and snacks.
From September 21 to mid-November, a pilot operation was conducted with about 1,800 participants, and survey results showed a satisfaction rate of over 90%, indicating high satisfaction.
The county is working hard to prepare for the opening on the 24th and to ensure smooth operation of the center after the pilot operation.
An Hwan-ok, the Marine Healing Officer, said, “Once the Marine Healing Center is fully operational, Korea’s marine healing industry will be on the right track,” adding, “We will do our best to ensure the successful establishment of the marine healing industry and to lead healthy living in Korea.”
