Gyeonggi-do Identifies 7,600 Telecommunication Sales Businesses Operating After Reporting Closure or Suspension to the National Tax Service
Gyeonggi Province has identified more than 7,600 online telecommunication sales businesses in the province that continued operations even after filing online suspension or closure reports with the National Tax Service.
On the 20th, Gyeonggi Province announced that through the 'Consumer Safety Keeper' program, it conducted monitoring of online telecommunication sales businesses and confirmed that 7,606 sites were still operating despite having reported suspension or closure to the National Tax Service.
The Consumer Safety Keeper program was introduced in 2019 to enable residents to directly contribute to consumer safety. Gyeonggi Province conducted monitoring of online telecommunication sales businesses for five months from May to October this year.
The monitoring targeted 175,380 telecommunication sales businesses in the province that had registered their business with the National Tax Service and operated online sales. The monitoring checked whether these businesses continued to operate their websites after filing suspension or closure reports and whether the business information on their websites matched the information reported to the National Tax Service. This was to prevent potential damages caused by continued operation after suspension or closure reports or discrepancies in business information.
The monitoring results revealed that among 45,133 businesses that reported suspension or closure to the National Tax Service, 7,606 (16.5%) were still operating their websites.
Additionally, among 130,247 businesses currently operating, 68,565 (52.6%) had discrepancies between the business information displayed on their websites?such as business name, representative’s name, and phone number?and the information reported to the National Tax Service.
Gyeonggi Province plans to request corrective actions through city and county offices, including administrative deletion or voluntary closure reports for the relevant businesses.
