"Proctor's Mobile Phone Rings During CSAT English Listening Test"…Complaint Filed
Supervising Teacher Doesn't Report
Situation Understood Only After Complaints Filed
A complaint was filed that a sound came from a proctor's mobile phone during the English listening test of the 2024 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT).
According to the Jeonbuk Provincial Office of Education on the 17th, a small sound came from a proctor's mobile phone during question 11 of the third period English listening test at a test site in Namwon City the previous day. The proctor immediately left the classroom and then returned.
There were 24 examinees taking the test in the classroom. Some examinees claimed that the proctor used the mobile phone, causing noise for about 10 seconds, which prevented them from properly concentrating on the test.
There was not only a supervising teacher but also an assistant supervising teacher at the test site, but they judged that no harm was caused to the students and did not even report the incident. It was only after complaints were filed through the National Petition System and other channels that they began to assess the situation.
According to the investigation, the proctor had used the mobile phone in a vehicle during lunch break and then put it directly into his pocket before entering the test site. He reportedly stated that the sound occurred briefly during the pause between listening test questions and did not interfere with the test.
At the CSAT test site, neither examinees nor proctors are allowed to bring electronic devices such as mobile phones. Also, leaving the seat is only permitted in emergency situations such as a patient occurrence, but this rule was not followed.

Complete Suspension of Aircraft Takeoff and Landing During Listening Test
During the English listening test time (from 1:10 PM to 1:35 PM), aircraft takeoff and landing were suspended for 25 minutes at 15 airports nationwide. Aircraft in flight during the listening test had to wait at an altitude of more than 3 km above the ground under the control of air traffic control authorities. This measure was taken to minimize aircraft noise for the examinees.
