Temperatures Drop Below Freezing with Strong Winds... Average Temperatures to Recover Tomorrow

View original imageAccording to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 18th, the morning temperatures in major cities are Seoul -3.3°C, Incheon -1.8°C, Daejeon -2.6°C, Gwangju 0.5°C, Daegu -0.8°C, Busan 0.2°C, Ulsan -0.5°C, and Jeju 7.1°C. The daytime high temperatures range from 5 to 12°C.
Korea is on the edge of a high-pressure system located near Shanghai, China, resulting in occasional clouds in the central region and Gyeongsang area, while Jeolla region and Jeju Island are mostly cloudy. Until morning, some areas in Chungcheong, Jeolla, southern Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, and Jeju may experience rain or snow. Expected snowfall amounts are less than 1 cm in Sejong, Daejeon, inland Chungnam, and southern Chungbuk; 1 to 5 cm in Gwangju and northeastern Jeonnam; around 1 cm in Jeonbuk; 1 to 5 cm on Ulleungdo and Dokdo; and 2 to 7 cm in the mountainous areas of Jeju. Precipitation is forecasted to be less than 5 mm.
Temperatures are expected to return to average the following day. However, some inland areas may see morning temperatures drop below freezing. On the morning of the 19th, the lowest temperatures will range from -4°C to 7°C, and daytime highs will be between 12 and 17°C.

Strong winds should be noted. On this day, a strong wind advisory has been issued for most coastal areas, the mountainous regions of Gangwon, western inland Gyeongbuk, northeastern mountainous Gyeongbuk, parts of Gyeongnam, and Jeju Island, where wind gusts are expected to exceed 70 km/h (20 m/s). On the afternoon of the 19th, winds are forecasted to be strong with gusts exceeding 55 km/h (15 m/s), especially around the Seoul metropolitan area, the west coast, and the eastern Gangwon region.
