Woods appeared at the tournament venue to support his son. Woods, who graduated from Western High School in Anaheim, California, never experienced a state-level championship win during his high school years. This was because California did not hold state-level high school team golf competitions at that time. Instead, Woods led Western High School to a team victory at the 1991 Southern California Regional Championship and won the individual title three times.
