President Yoon Suk-yeol, who visited the United States to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, met with Apple CEO Tim Cook on the 15th (local time) to discuss cooperation and investment plans for Korean companies. President Yoon urged, "Please continue to expand cooperation with Korean companies that possess the world's best technology and capabilities."
On the afternoon of the same day, President Yoon met CEO Cook at a hotel in San Francisco. This was their first meeting. Upon greeting in the reception room, President Yoon said, "Nice to meet you," and "I wanted to see you once," to which CEO Cook replied, "It is an honor."

During the meeting, CEO Cook said, "Korea holds a special meaning for me," and "My father was a Korean War veteran and has a special affection for Korea," according to Choi Sang-mok, the senior economic secretary of the presidential office, who briefed the press locally. In particular, CEO Cook stated, "Without the support of Korean partner companies and the government, Apple would not have reached its current position," adding, "Apple has signed contracts worth over $100 billion with Korean companies in the past five years and will continue cooperation and investment going forward."
In response, President Yoon expressed gratitude, saying, "I appreciate that CEO Cook’s father participated and dedicated himself in the Korean War," and added, "Please continue to expand cooperation with Korean companies that have the world's best technology and capabilities. Korea will also actively support this." It is also known that President Yoon and CEO Cook discussed the global direction of digital technology development.
Senior Secretary Choi explained, "Apple is the world's largest ICT company with the highest global sales, and domestic component companies play an important role in manufacturing smart devices," adding, "President Yoon’s meeting with CEO Cook was an occasion to strengthen supply chain cooperation between Apple and Korean component companies." Currently, more than 200 domestic companies are partners with Apple, supplying 30% of Apple’s purchased components.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Park Jin, Senior Secretary Choi, Public Relations Secretary Kim Eun-hye, Science and Technology Secretary Choi Won-ho, and Industry Secretary Park Sung-taek attended the meeting. On Apple’s side, besides CEO Cook, Vice Presidents Lisa Jackson and Nick Amman were present.
