Gwangju Nam-gu Distributes Anti-Slip Pads to Prevent Elevator Fall Accidents
Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is set to actively promote a new project this year to distribute anti-slip pads for elevators in order to prevent falls among elevator users and provide a safe elevator usage environment.
According to Nam-gu on the 16th, the distribution of elevator anti-slip pads is a project aimed at preventing accidents caused by reduced friction between shoes and elevator floors due to moisture during winter and rainy seasons, which increases the risk of falls.
The support targets passenger elevators located in daycare centers and kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools, children's hospitals, general hospitals, nursing hospitals, facilities for the elderly and disabled, overpasses, and public facilities.
Currently, it has been identified that 243 elevators are operating in 168 facilities within the district.
The elevator anti-slip pads are expected to be distributed starting at the end of this month.
Nam-gu conducted a demand survey from October 23 to November 3 targeting elevator management entities and safety managers within the district, and plans to provide elevator anti-slip pads to 85 priority facilities, including safety-vulnerable groups and multi-use facilities.
There are 121 elevators operating in these facilities, and two anti-slip pads will be provided per elevator. The pads will be installed at the elevator entrance and inside.

A Nam-gu official stated, "Since safety-vulnerable groups such as the elderly, disabled, and children can suffer fatal injuries like brain damage and fractures if they slip and fall, we decided to distribute elevator anti-slip pads as a preventive measure against these risk factors."
