Yoon Departs for San Francisco, USA to Attend APEC Meeting
Condemnation of Illegal Russia-North Korea Arms Trade at APEC Summit
Emphasis on Restoring Multilateral Trade System Also Planned
President Yoon Suk-yeol departed on the 15th for San Francisco, USA, where the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit is being held.
President Yoon and First Lady Kim Keon-hee boarded the presidential aircraft, Air Force One, at Seongnam Seoul Airport in the afternoon to begin their visit to the United States.
President Yoon appeared at the airport wearing a dark navy suit, while First Lady Kim wore a black pantsuit with a white shirt.
People who came to see them off at the airport included Kim Ki-hyun, leader of the People Power Party, Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader, Kim Dae-gi, Chief Presidential Secretary, Ko Ki-dong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and Jang Ho-jin, First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Philip Goldberg, the U.S. Ambassador to Korea, was also present.
After shaking hands individually with them, President Yoon and First Lady Kim boarded Air Force One.
At the APEC Summit, President Yoon plans to condemn the illegal arms trade by Russia and North Korea and call for international cooperation.
He will also emphasize South Korea’s contributions to overcoming the climate crisis, the restoration of the multilateral trade system to address complex crises, the recovery of APEC’s leadership and solidarity among member countries, and cooperation to establish digital ethics standards.
Through the APEC CEO Summit, dialogue with the APEC Business Advisory Council, and investment signing ceremonies, he will engage with leaders from various countries and business sectors.
Additionally, on the 16th, President Yoon will attend the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) Summit led by the United States.
On the 17th, he is scheduled to participate in a roundtable discussion at Stanford University in the U.S. with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, focusing on cooperation in advanced technology sectors among Korea, Japan, and the U.S.
There are also speculations that a Korea-China summit may be held in conjunction with President Yoon’s attendance at the APEC meeting.

President Yoon will return to Korea on the 18th, review domestic issues on the 19th, and then embark on a tour of the United Kingdom and France from the 20th to the 26th.
