Goheung-gun Collaborates to Successfully Conclude Drone Demonstration City Project

Based on One Year of Demonstration Results, Aiming for Early Commercialization

Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced that it held a workshop for the 2023 Drone Demonstration City Construction Project over two days from the 13th to the 14th at the Yeosu Hidden Bay Hotel.

The Drone Demonstration City Construction Project is a project organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Aviation Safety Technology Institute, conducted in the form of a public contest. It aims to expand the possibilities of drone utilization projects and promote demonstrations tailored to regional characteristics.

The county formed a consortium with Jeonnam Technopark, Korean Air, P&U Drone, Cheonpung, Nalda, and Marine Robotics, and was selected for the drone demonstration city construction public contest project for the first time in March.

Through the project, the county and participating companies are conducting demonstrations to strengthen social safety nets on inhabited and uninhabited islands using drones, repel harmful birds, and deliver emergency supplies.

At the workshop held over two days, the general managers of the consortium participating organizations attended and shared the achievements accumulated over eight months.

Additionally, based on the results of this year’s projects, they discussed various ideas to commercialize various drone services such as long-distance emergency supply delivery ahead of other local governments and improve the demonstration content.

A Gohung-gun official who attended the workshop said, “Gohung-gun is making great efforts to foster advanced aviation industries such as drones as a foundational industry of the region,” adding, “Please help us successfully complete the Drone Demonstration City Construction Project and achieve good results in the final evaluation to lay the groundwork for Gohung to grow the drone industry.”

Meanwhile, starting this year, the county is promoting Gohung as a drone and UAM (Urban Air Mobility) hub city nationwide by hosting the Nokdong Port Drone Show and the Gohung Drone·UAM Expo. It is also focusing administrative efforts on pioneering the future advanced aviation industry by promoting projects such as the establishment of a Gohung-type urban air mobility tourism route, building a future aircraft flight safety performance monitoring system, and installing a UAM virtual reality experience zone.
