Extinguished After 3 Hours 28 Minutes
A fire broke out in an electric vehicle charging in Jeju during the early morning hours. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.
According to the Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters and Yonhap News on the 14th, at around 3:46 a.m., a report was received by 119 from a neighboring resident that a fire had started in an Ioniq electric vehicle charging in the parking lot of a house in Hamdeok-eup, Jeju City.

View original imageFire authorities who responded to the report extinguished the fire by setting up portable water tanks. The fire was completely put out at around 7:14 a.m., 3 hours and 28 minutes later.
Since the fire occurred while the vehicle was parked, fortunately, no casualties occurred. However, the battery pack burned, causing an estimated damage of approximately 24.2 million KRW according to the fire department.
The owner of the vehicle had started charging the electric car from 5 p.m. the previous day and reportedly received a notification that it was fully charged around 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, the fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire in cooperation with the manufacturer, considering that the fire was limited to the inside of the electric vehicle battery pack, there were no unusual circumstances such as traffic accidents before the fire, and the initial smoke originated from the underside of the vehicle, suggesting that the fire started due to battery overheating.
