Yongsan-gu 'Itaewon Global Village Festival' Wins Pinnacle Award
First Participation in the World Festival Association Korea Conference on the 10th... Won Silver Award in the Global Exchange Category Among 19 Divisions
‘Itaewon Global Village Festival,’ the representative festival of Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Hee-young), won the silver award at the ‘17th Pinnacle Awards Korea’ held on the 10th at the Gwangju Ramada Plaza Chungjang Hotel.
The Pinnacle Awards is known as the world festival Olympics. It is hosted annually by the International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA WORLD) to discover and award competitive festivals worldwide.
The Korea competition serves as a preliminary round for advancing to the U.S. finals. This year, 37 local governments nationwide participated, submitting over 40 contents. Awards were given in 19 categories including ▲Representative Program ▲Night Festival ▲Hallyu Festival ▲Global Exchange ▲Regional Revitalization Festival ▲Promotional Design, among others.
The ‘Itaewon Global Village Festival’ entered for the first time this year and achieved the remarkable feat of winning the silver award in the Global Exchange category.
Notably, the 2022 Itaewon Global Village Festival offered various attractions such as traditional performances from many countries around the world and foods from countries that are usually hard to experience. It received impressive recognition as over one million visitors from across the country came to enjoy the unique cultures.
A district official stated, “The Itaewon Global Village Festival, prepared every year together with Itaewon merchants, is Seoul’s representative global street culture festival sponsored by the district. This award seems to be a stepping stone to advancing further into the global stage.”
In addition to this award, the festival has been recognized domestically and internationally as an excellent festival, having won the Hot Issue Star Award at the 2018 Korea Big Data Festival Awards and the Social Popularity Award at the 2019 Korea Big Data Festival Awards.
