Yangcheon-gu Conducts Comprehensive Inspection of 311 Mechanical Parking Lots to Prevent Safety Accidents
Comprehensive Inspection of Mechanical Parking Lots by November 24 to Verify Overall Management Status Including Regular Inspection Compliance
Administrative Actions Such as Fines Imposed for Failure to Conduct Regular and Detailed Safety Inspections After Voluntary Correction Period
Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will conduct a full inspection of 311 mechanical parking lots in the area by the 24th of this month to prevent safety accidents in mechanical parking lots.
Mechanical parking lots are widely installed in urban and residential areas due to their efficient use of space. However, according to the Fire Agency, the number of dispatches to mechanical parking lots has reached 2,308 cases over the past four years, indicating that safety accidents are increasing every year.
Accordingly, the district inspects the safety management status of facilities annually. Last year, after investigating a total of 307 locations, correction orders were issued for 16 places found to be in violation of the Parking Lot Act, such as failure to undergo detailed safety inspections, and fines were imposed on 2 places that did not comply.
This year's inspection targets are 311 mechanical parking lots within the district, with a total of 7,450 available parking spaces. The key inspection items include ▲whether regular inspections and detailed safety inspections have been conducted ▲whether inspection certificates are attached ▲whether managers are assigned when accommodating 20 or more vehicles ▲whether parking device usage notices are posted, among others.
Minor issues found during the inspection will be corrected immediately on-site. For severely aged mechanical parking lots left unattended, since they can be operated under relaxed standards allowing up to half of the mandatory parking spaces upon demolition and reinstallation, the district plans to encourage reconstruction to ensure perfect safety management of the facilities.
For cases of failure to conduct regular and detailed safety inspections, which are crucial for the safety of mechanical parking lot users, a voluntary correction period will be granted. After guidance such as inspection notifications, if not corrected, administrative actions such as fines will be taken.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “Since regular inspections alone have a significant effect on accident prevention in mechanical parking lots, we will create a safe parking environment by increasing the inspection rate through continuous management status checks and guidance.”
