Muan County Council Operates Mock Legislative Experience for Children and Youth
Providing Democratic Decision-Making Process Learning Opportunities for Students of Hyeongyeong Elementary School
The Muan County Council in Jeollanam-do (Chairman Kim Kyung-hyun) held the "1st Children and Youth Council Experience Activity" for 14 students from Hyeongyeong Elementary School in the main assembly hall on the 9th.
According to the county council on the 10th, the council experience activity provided students with an opportunity to directly experience the functions and roles of local councils and effectively learn democratic decision-making procedures.

View original imageIn particular, to encourage students to participate naturally with interest, topics such as "Classroom Environmental Cleanup Activities" and "School CCTV Installation Ordinance," which students can easily relate to and encounter around the school, were selected as meeting topics.
The students participating in the council experience activity had time to understand the council proceedings by directly experiencing various decision-making processes of the council, including 3-minute free speeches, ordinance proposal explanations, pros and cons debates, and voting.
Chairman Kim Kyung-hyun said, "I hope this council experience activity will serve as an opportunity for children and youth to learn about the democratic and rational decision-making processes that take place in local councils," adding, "I will support the students to grow into mature and sound democratic citizens."
Meanwhile, the Muan County Council plans to continuously operate meaningful experience events by accepting applications from schools wishing to participate in council experience activities to strengthen the democratic citizenship capabilities of children and students in the district.
