The bodybuilding team of Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) achieved excellent results by winning a gold medal at the World Championship.
The Gwangjin-gu bodybuilding team consists of coach Lee Kang-sun and five athletes. Through thorough self-management, relentless effort, and strong teamwork among the athletes, they have consistently achieved good results in every competition.
In particular, on the 6th at the ‘2023 IFBB World Men’s Bodybuilding Championship’ held in Santa Susanna, Spain, athlete Lee Shin-jae (34) won the gold medal in the -75kg category. With this award, he secured gold for the third consecutive year, contributing to South Korea’s best-ever overall 2nd place finish.
Also, at last month’s ‘104th National Sports Festival,’ the team participated as representatives of Seoul City and performed impressively. Seo Gyo, competing in the +90kg category, won gold; Baek Jae-wook in the -80kg category and Lee Shin-jae in the -75kg category won silver; and Lee Woo-hyung in the -65kg category took home bronze, making a name for themselves.
On the 9th, a communication session was held at Gwangjin-gu Office to congratulate the team. Mayor Kim Kyung-ho presented commemorative medals and certificates of commendation to the athletes and offered words of encouragement.

Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, “I sincerely thank and congratulate all the athletes who gave their best efforts during the preparation period for the competition,” and added, “The district will continue to provide support so that the sweat and efforts of the bodybuilding team will not be in vain.”
Founded in 1996, the Gwangjin-gu bodybuilding team has been consistently practicing talent donation beyond just participating in competitions. Since last year, they have gained attention by running free personal training (PT) special lectures for local residents, and this month, they will conduct a one-day lecture for students of the Department of Physical Education at Konkuk University.
