Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Gang-su) has taken proactive measures to ensure residents' safety in response to recent nationwide accidents caused by natural disasters such as strong winds and heavy rain.
On the 6th, part of a temporary structure at an officetel construction site in Gongdeok-dong tilted due to strong winds. In response, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, immediately activated the 'Safe Mapo Hotline' and visited the site with relevant department staff to take swift action and prevent accidents. (Photo)
At the same time, employees from the Mapo-gu Architecture Support Division conducted a thorough inspection of safety facilities at private construction sites in the area. Inspectors visited 97 building construction sites and 13 demolition sites in person, checking hazardous structures together with site supervisors and contractors to prepare for emergencies caused by natural disasters.
Additionally, Mapo-gu will inspect 46 major citizen disaster target facilities, including roads and bridges, retaining walls, facilities for the elderly and children, indoor performance halls, and daycare centers, as well as 14 workplaces such as cleaning vehicle garages and rainwater pumping stations, by the 10th.
The inspection team includes staff from Mapo-gu’s Citizen Safety Division’s Major Disaster Prevention Team, safety managers, and health managers, who will professionally and technically review the facilities and sites to strengthen safety.
Through on-site inspections, Mapo-gu will check the condition of concrete in buildings, the fixation of wall attachments, the state of bridge railings and curbs, and hazardous factors at work sites. If urgent measures are deemed necessary, the management department will be immediately notified to carry out emergency repairs and reinforcements. When risks are identified, safety measures such as installing warning signs and restricting access will be implemented according to the emergency response manual.
Furthermore, alongside facility inspections, compliance with obligations under the Serious Accident Punishment Act will be checked to enhance the safety awareness and responsibility of business owners and management officials.
