Gokseong-gun Secures 11.2 Billion Won in Local Extinction Response Fund
Selection of Local Governments Awarded 'A Grade', the Highest Level in the Local Extinction Response Fund
Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that it received an "A grade" in the 2024 Local Extinction Response Fund Investment Plan Evaluation, securing 11.2 billion KRW.
The Local Extinction Response Fund is a government initiative aimed at resolving the crisis of local extinction by providing differentiated support based on the evaluation results of investment plans established by local governments in 89 population-declining areas over 10 years, with an annual budget of about 1 trillion KRW.
The support amount is allocated differentially by evaluating the investment plans submitted by local governments and dividing them into four grades (S to C). S grade (14.4 billion KRW) was awarded to 4 places nationwide, A grade (11.2 billion KRW) to 14 places, B grade (8 billion KRW) to 26 places, and C grade (6.4 billion KRW) to 45 places. Gokseong-gun received an A grade and secured 11.2 billion KRW.
This extinction response fund evaluation was conducted objectively by external evaluators through three stages: document review, on-site evaluation, and face-to-face evaluation. Gokseong-gun carefully reviewed the evaluation criteria and established its investment plan accordingly.
With the vision of making Gokseong an attractive place where people stay and visit, Gokseong-gun submitted six projects aimed at completing the Gokseong-type educational ecosystem and creating a youth independence foundation linked to local resources: ▲ Gokseong-type Youth Housing Town Development Project ▲ Smart Young Farmer Campus Creation Project ▲ Family-type Work Village Development ▲ Gokseong Study Abroad Village Development Project ▲ Gokseong Return Village Development Project ▲ Gokseong-type Youth Vitality Village Creation Project.
Last year, the county also received a higher B grade, securing a total of 16.8 billion KRW for two years (2022-2023), and is steadily promoting eight projects including ▲ the completion of Gokseong Study Abroad linked to ‘Dodam Dodam Village’ and ▲ the Gokseong Return Village Development Project.
Governor Lee Sang-cheol of Gokseong-gun said, “Following last year, we were able to secure 11.2 billion KRW by receiving the highest grade in the Local Extinction Response Fund again this year. Through this fund, we will enhance and solidify existing projects and promote new projects to boost population vitality, actively responding to the local extinction crisis. At the same time, we will do our best to achieve the county administration goal of ‘A Happier Gokseong for Residents.’”
