Yangcheon-gu, 'Smart Parking Management Solution' Electronic Display Installed in Academy District
View original imageYangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will operate a ‘Smart Parking Management Solution’ from this month targeting 15 academy-dense areas with frequent illegal parking to improve road conditions and ensure driving safety.
The ‘Smart Parking Management Solution’ is a project that encourages drivers to voluntarily refrain from illegal parking by linking illegal parking vehicle guidance with a public-private parking lot sharing information system, rather than enforcement-based guidance.
To this end, the district installed closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) and electronic display boards in 15 academy areas with frequent illegal parking. The CCTV detects vehicles violating parking regulations in the academy areas, analyzes the footage, and displays the vehicle number and photo on the electronic board, while also providing real-time information on available parking spaces in nearby parking lots to encourage drivers to voluntarily relocate their vehicles.
Additionally, to establish traffic order around academy areas and prevent congestion caused by pick-up and drop-off vehicles, the district also built a ‘Public-Private Parking Lot Sharing Solution’ that shares available parking spaces in real time through the ‘Seoul Parking Information Guide App.’
The district installed Internet of Things (IoT) sensors capable of detecting parking availability in 275 parking spaces across 9 public parking lots. Furthermore, parking control systems were integrated and installed in 10 public parking lots and 6 private parking lots, allowing real-time data collected through sensors to be displayed on the app. By combining private parking lots with public ones, this is expected to significantly improve parking management efficiency and reduce cruising vehicles and illegal parking around academy areas.
The district plans to analyze the effects of this project and, if meaningful results such as a reduction in illegal parking are confirmed, gradually expand the implementation areas.
