Jeon Cheong-jo (27), who was known as the remarriage partner of former national fencing representative Nam Hyun-hee (42), was arrested on the 3rd.
Shin Hyun-il, the warrant judge in charge at the Seoul Eastern District Court, stated that during the pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant review) for Jeon, who is accused of fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (Special Act), he issued an arrest warrant citing "risk of flight and unstable residence."

Jeon is suspected of receiving money under the pretext of investment funds from people he met through lectures and other means, embezzling the money, or inducing them to take out loans for this purpose. The police have identified 15 victims of the fraud so far, with damages exceeding 1.9 billion KRW. The scale of the damage may increase depending on the progress of the investigation.
The police, who received complaints and reports against Jeon and launched an investigation, arrested him on the 31st of last month at a relative's house in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, and applied for an arrest warrant the day before.
On the day of the warrant review, Jeon left the Seoul Songpa Police Station and got into the transport vehicle without responding to reporters' questions such as "Did Nam have no knowledge of the criminal acts?" and "Do you feel wronged?"

After Jeon left, his legal team told reporters, "(Jeon) admitted to all of his fraudulent acts after undergoing intense questioning for two days." They also stated, "Above all, (Jeon) repeatedly expressed apologies to the victims, and since recovery of damages is the most important, we plan to focus on this aspect in his defense."
Regarding suspicions of collusion with Nam, they explained, "A detailed investigation has not yet been conducted," and added, "Nam requested a confrontation investigation, and Jeon is also cooperating sincerely with the investigation, including confrontation questioning, to reveal the substantive truth about the conflicting parts of their statements."
They also denied media reports that Jeon planned to flee before his arrest, calling them "completely untrue and speculative."
Regarding other allegations against Jeon, such as assaulting Nam's nephew, they said it is difficult to comment at this time but added that Jeon is actively testifying regarding all charges against him. They also mentioned, "Currently, Jeon has almost no assets."
Meanwhile, Nam maintains that she is completely unrelated to Jeon's fraudulent activities.
