Yangchunsa extract, derived from the fruit of Yangchunsa, is a premium herbal medicine whose fat reduction effects were confirmed in 2016. Human application tests showed significant results such as reductions in weight, body mass index (BMI), body fat mass, visceral fat mass, subcutaneous fat mass, and leptin, along with an increase in adiponectin. Safety was also secured through toxicity evaluation in 2020. Accordingly, in March of this year, it was recognized as an individually acknowledged functional ingredient (No. 2023-6) by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and related papers on reductions in blood total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL cholesterol levels were published in academic journals.
Huons plans to launch next-generation functional products using Yangchunsa extract as the main ingredient early next year. It will continue various research activities such as joint research and symposium hosting with Wonkwang University College of Korean Medicine and Ilwon Bio to acquire additional functional ingredient certifications for health functional foods.
A Huons representative stated, “With the safety and functionality of Yangchunsa extract proven, it is expected to bring a new wave to the diet-related health functional food market,” adding, “As year-end and New Year gatherings increase, demand for diet health functional foods will rise, and interest in Yangchunsa is expected to grow.”
