The Age-friendly Cities International Network is an alliance established in 2010 to connect cities, communities, and organizations worldwide under the common vision of creating communities that are livable for the elderly. Currently, over 1,500 cities from 51 countries around the world participate.
Previously, Jongno-gu joined the network for the first term in October 2020, successfully completed related research this year, and has been promoting a project for the 2nd term age-friendly city development since May.
In the 2nd term, the focus will be on creating “Jongno as the origin (本) of an age-friendly city,” reflecting the district’s 8th elected administration vision based on three core philosophies: “Active Aging,” “Continued Community Residence,” and “Intergenerational Harmony.”
Emphasis was placed on providing an urban environment where not only the elderly but all residents can lead physically, emotionally, and socially healthy lives and live together harmoniously.
Additionally, based on the results of the 1st term, improvements will be identified and only key projects suitable for Jongno will be actively implemented from a long-term perspective.
Major projects for the 2nd term of Jongno-gu’s age-friendly city include ▲expansion of senior job and social activity support programs ▲Jongno-gu & Jogyesa Job Sharing Center recruitment fair ▲creation of senior leisure facilities ▲operation of senior care cars ▲District Mayor meeting with solitary seniors via Zoom ▲artificial intelligence care services ▲and Health-Irang services.
