It has been confirmed that Jeon Cheong-jo, who broke up with fencing national team member Nam Hyun-hee, is also under police investigation for allegedly assaulting Nam's nephew.
The Seongnam Jungwon Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 30th that Jeon has been booked on charges of child abuse.
Jeon is accused of hitting A, a middle school student and Nam's nephew, multiple times with a golf club at Nam's mother's house in Jungwon-gu, Seongnam City, between late August and early last month. The police are investigating the case after receiving a report from a child protection agency. It is known that the police have secured statements from A and officials from the agency.
In addition, the police are investigating complaints and accusations of fraud against Jeon. Yoon Hee-geun, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, said at a regular press briefing on the same day, "The National Investigation Headquarters will comprehensively assess the severity and conduct the investigation as swiftly and strictly as possible."
