A Monk in His 50s Sentenced to Imprisonment for Fatal Traffic Accident
A monk in his 50s who caused a fatal accident while driving a passenger car was sentenced to a prison term with a suspended sentence.
According to the legal community on the 30th, the Gwangju District Court Criminal Division 3 (Presiding Judge Lee Hyerim) sentenced A (56), who was indicted for violating the Special Act on the Treatment of Traffic Accidents (causing death), to one year in prison with a two-year suspension.
A was brought to trial on charges of hitting and killing a woman in her 60s while driving on a road in Naju, Jeollanam-do, at around 6:50 a.m. on February 7.
It was investigated that A failed to notice the victim walking in the same direction on the road and caused the accident while driving. Whether speeding was involved has not been confirmed.
Drivers have a duty of care in their work, including not driving in a way that endangers or obstructs others.
