Governor Kim Dong-yeon to Visit Liaoning Province and Beijing, China, Late This Month... Expecting Exchange Revitalization
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon is set to embark on a business trip to China.
On the 27th, Gyeonggi Province announced that a provincial delegation led by Governor Kim Dong-yeon will visit Shenyang in Liaoning Province and Beijing, China, from October 30 to November 3, aiming to develop Korea-China relations and strengthen exchanges at the metropolitan government level.
This visit marks the 30th anniversary of the sisterhood agreement between Gyeonggi Province and Liaoning Province, focusing on enhancing exchanges at the metropolitan government level and revitalizing practical cooperation in economic, cultural, and tourism sectors.
During the visit, Governor Kim will meet Hao Feng, Party Secretary of Liaoning Province, and Li Lecheng, Governor of Liaoning Province, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the sisterhood between the two regions and discuss ways to revitalize cooperation between metropolitan local governments, which has been sluggish due to COVID-19. He will also meet with representatives of Korean companies operating in China to explore ways to advance Korea-China trade.
During Governor Kim’s visit, the two regions plan to sign a joint declaration to comprehensively strengthen cooperation in four major areas: ▲activation of high-level visits ▲expansion of trade and investment ▲cultural and sports exchanges such as performances, exhibitions, and games ▲promotion of policy, industry, and technology exchanges.
Notably, the two regions will hold a tourism briefing session for the first time since the sisterhood agreement was signed.
With China recently resuming group tourism, the briefing session, designed to promote tourism exchanges between the two regions, will include introductions to tourism content from Gyeonggi Province and Liaoning Province, as well as a business consultation meeting between travel industries from Liaoning Province and Gyeonggi Province.
Additionally, a cultural exchange agreement focusing on exhibition exchanges between the Gyeonggi Provincial Museum and Liaoning Provincial Museum and expert personnel exchanges is also planned.
Liaoning Province, along with Jilin Province (吉林省) and Heilongjiang Province (黑龍江省), is known as one of the three northeastern provinces, and among them, it is the most economically developed region. For this reason, Gyeonggi Province established the Gyeonggi Business Center (GBC) in Shenyang, Liaoning Province. The Gyeonggi Business Center is a local office operated by Gyeonggi Province for export marketing of small and medium-sized enterprises, with four locations in China: Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, and Shenyang.
Gyeonggi Province has sisterhood or friendly cooperation relationships with eight local governments in China, with Liaoning Province being the longest-standing partner.
Gyeonggi Province established a sisterhood agreement with Liaoning Province in October 1993. Since 1996, friendly exchange meetings have been held every two years, rotating among three regions including Kanagawa Prefecture in Japan.
