Opening of 'Majungdo Humanities Salon' to Serve as a Compass in the Era of Diversification

Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Kang-su) announced that the Mapo Central Library, a public library, will operate the 'Majungdo Humanities Salon' program four times from November 8 to 29.
'Majungdo Humanities Salon' is a special lecture program jointly prepared by Mapo Central Library and Ewha Womans University to revitalize cultural communication and lectures disrupted by COVID-19 and to cultivate the humanities literacy of district residents.
This special lecture will be held under the theme "Surviving in an Era of Diversification," in line with the trend of spreading a culture that recognizes individuality and diversity, and experts on each detailed topic have been invited for high-quality lectures.
The first and second lectures will be held in the seminar room of Mapo Central Library. The first lecture on November 8 will be delivered by Professor Nam Jong-guk of the Department of History at Ewha Womans University, titled "Western Spices and the Birth of Modernity (Age of Discovery)," discussing the origins of modernity created by Europeans' desire for spices and historical misunderstandings.
Following that, on November 15, Professor Kang Su-jin of the Hokma College of Liberal Arts at Ewha Womans University will give a lecture titled "Methods of Expressing Self-Identity through Space (Home) and Its Application in Modern Society."
To establish a cooperative system among local libraries, the third and fourth lectures will be held at Park Jeong-hee Library at 2 p.m. on November 21 and 29.
In response to the recent emergence of drug addiction as a serious social issue, Mapo-gu has prepared a lecture by Professor Jeong Hye-jung of the Department of History at Ewha Womans University for the third session titled "Management of Opium Addiction in Modern China."
The final lecture of the Majungdo Humanities Salon will be delivered by Professor Kim So-ryun of the College of Liberal Arts at Korea University of Technology and Education, under the theme "Posthuman Writing: A Journey from the Creating Writer to the Arranging Writer."
The program is designed for teenagers and adults. Applications for the first and second sessions can be made through the Mapo Central Library website, and for the third and fourth sessions through the Park Jeong-hee Library website.
