Discussion Forum on Improving Protection Measures for Emotional Labor Workers in Gwangju Region to be Held
City Council's New Labor Special Committee and Labor Center Discuss Fundamental Problem Solutions
The Gwangju Metropolitan Council's New Labor Special Committee (Chair Chae Eun-ji) and the Gwangju Labor Center will hold a forum on the "Survey Results and Improvement Measures for the Protection of Emotional Laborers in the Gwangju Area."
The forum, scheduled for 2 p.m. on the 27th in the Council's Budget and Accounts Special Committee Room, will be chaired by Chair Chae Eun-ji.
The discussion will focus on the "2023 Survey Results on Emotional Laborers in the Gwangju Area," which has been conducted since April, addressing fundamental issues and solutions.
Gwangju City enacted the "Emotional Laborers Protection Ordinance" in July 2016, the second of its kind nationwide, when the issue of emotional laborers became socially prominent. However, administrative support that workers can tangibly feel and improvements in public awareness are still required.
The forum will feature presentations including ▲ Choi Seon-hee, President of the Gwangju Branch of the National Health Insurance Customer Center Union, on "The Reality of Emotional Laborers" ▲ Kim Mi-kyung, Professor of Social Welfare at Gwangju University Graduate School of Social Welfare, on "Implications of the Emotional Laborers Survey Results" ▲ Kim Chang-min, Team Leader of the Labor and Job Policy Office of Gwangju Metropolitan City, on "Efforts and Challenges for Protecting Emotional Laborers in Gwangju Metropolitan City" ▲ Lee Seon-hwa, Director of the Gwangju Labor Center, on "Fundamental Issues and Solutions for Emotional Laborers."

Chair Chae Eun-ji of the New Labor Special Committee said, "As we mark seven years since the implementation of Gwangju City's Emotional Laborers Protection Ordinance, we have prepared this to review the actual conditions on the ground," adding, "We expect this forum to address key issues related to the reality of emotional laborers and serve as an important step toward better working environments."
