Reexamining Statements of Celebrities Previously Involved with Drugs
Following actor Lee Sun-kyun, Big Bang's G-Dragon (Kwon Ji-yong) is also under police investigation for drug use allegations, spreading the drug scandal in the entertainment industry. As a result, regretful remarks from celebrities who had previously used drugs are being reexamined.
"The victims of drugs are the nation... National character becomes lazy"
In 2021, singer Hyun Jin-young, who has a drug-related record, and Kim Tae-won, leader of the group Boohwal, appeared on the YouTube channel 'Kim Tae-won Class' to reflect on their past.
When a staff member asked, "Could you say a word to young people who might be using (drugs)?" Kim Tae-won warned, "When you quit later, it feels like monsters are coming into your stomach."
Hyun Jin-young also said, "You should not think there are no victims," adding, "The victims are society and the nation. When there are 10, 100, or 1,000 addicts, the country collapses and the national character becomes lazy."
Kim Tae-won further said, "You can think of it as living while being haunted by sleep paralysis in reality," and "I want to tell people not to live as if they only have one day to live."

In August, broadcaster Robert Harley appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' to emphasize the dangers of drugs. He was sentenced in March 2019 to one year in prison with a two-year probation for purchasing and using methamphetamine online.
On the broadcast, Robert Harley said, "(Pleasure) cannot be forgotten. There is no drug that makes you forget (pleasure)," and "Once you encounter drugs, the memory remains, which is why addicts suffer."
He stressed, "We call substances like marijuana 'gateway drugs,' and when you first encounter them, you want stronger sensations. You should not start with marijuana. You must not touch drugs for the first time."
Robert Harley expressed opposition to marijuana legalization. He said, "Looking at states where marijuana is legalized, the usage rate and youth drug use have increased," adding, "Therefore, we must oppose it."
He also said, "Drug offenders gather in prison and later plan how to secretly use drugs after release," and "Rehabilitation treatment is necessary. In my case, I received treatment from the start. I had one-on-one education with the director of the treatment center. That’s how I was able to overcome it."
Following Lee Sun-kyun, G-Dragon also booked on drug charges
Meanwhile, on the 25th, the Incheon Police Agency's Narcotics Crime Investigation Division booked G-Dragon on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act and is investigating him. G-Dragon, who gained popularity as the leader of Big Bang, was investigated by prosecutors in 2011 for marijuana smoking but received a suspended indictment at that time.
