Guro-gu Re-designated as a 'Lifelong Learning City'... Local Specialized Best Practices Gain Attention
Maintaining Authority as a Lifelong Learning City Until 2026... Guro World Cafe, Guro Democratic Citizenship Education, and Excellent Cases of Lifelong Learning Support Projects for People with Disabilities Selected
Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) has been re-designated as a "Lifelong Learning City" in recognition of the achievements of its lifelong learning projects carried out over the past three years.
In June, the Ministry of Education conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the lifelong learning projects from 2020 to 2022, including the implementation system, budget, and project outcomes, for the re-designation of lifelong learning cities. As a result, Guro-gu was once again granted the status of a Lifelong Learning City.
First selected as a Lifelong Learning City in 2018, Guro-gu has implemented various region-specific projects to promote lifelong education.
In the recent re-designation review, the ‘Guro World Cafe,’ where marriage immigrant women serve as assistant instructors, ‘Guro Democratic Citizenship Education with Neighbors,’ and the ‘Lifelong Learning Support Project for Persons with Disabilities’ through local resident training were recognized as excellent specialized cases.
Additionally, to guarantee residents’ lifelong learning rights, the district signed agreements with lifelong education institutions to expand learning spaces and opened night programs, increasing lifelong education opportunities for residents.
By strengthening the expertise of dedicated personnel, improving program operation systems, conducting mid-term evaluations of ongoing projects, and discovering outstanding learning cases, the lifelong learning projects were systematically managed.
To create a better learning environment as a Lifelong Learning City, Guro-gu is currently conducting a study on the five-year mid- to long-term development plan for lifelong education and is working on the construction of a lifelong learning center on the site of the KBS transmission station, scheduled for completion in 2025.
