National Cherry Blossom Festival 'Changwon Jinhae Gunhangje' ... Selected as 'Local 100' by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism
The nationwide cherry blossom festival, Changwon Jinhae Gunhangje, has emerged as a prominent local attraction.
Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 25th that Jinhae Gunhangje, Changwon's representative festival and one of Korea's leading spring flower festivals, has been selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's ‘Local100’ project.
‘Local100’ is a project that selects 100 tangible and intangible cultural resources representing local areas, such as local attractions, contents, and masters, to promote them externally in order to realize a livable local era anywhere in Korea.
Jinhae Gunhangje is Changwon City's representative festival held every spring in Jinhae, where the entire city is covered with 360,000 cherry trees. It is a global spring flower festival visited by people worldwide to see cherry blossom spots such as Yeoja Stream and Gyeonghwa Station, as well as the cherry blossom scenery harmonized with naval bases opened only during the festival period and modern architecture built over 100 years ago.
In particular, this year's Jinhae Gunhangje, which attracted 4.5 million domestic and international tourists, played a significant role in promoting Korea's excellent defense industry technology by adding content related to Changwon's main industry, the ‘defense industry,’ to the festival's original identity of inheriting the noble spirit of Admiral Yi Sun-sin.
Changwon City expects that Jinhae Gunhangje's selection for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's ‘Local100’ will greatly help promote the festival both domestically and internationally.

An official from the Tourism Department said, “We will make efforts to widely promote the charm of Changwon's tourism resources, including Jinhae Gunhangje, taking this ‘Local100’ selection as an opportunity.”
