The DMZ Open International Music Festival will open on November 4.
The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization announced on the 25th that the "DMZ Open International Music Festival" will be held at Goyang Aram Nuri from November 4 to 11.
At the opening performance on November 4, the DMZ commissioned piece "Healing Light," themed around healing, will be performed for the first time in the world. The composition was created by Kim Shin, who won first place in the composition category at the 2022 Geneva International Music Competition. This is the world's first classical commissioned piece based on the DMZ.
Also, Roman Federico (Ukraine/piano), the first-place winner of the "Horowitz Competition," which was held in Ukraine but took place in Switzerland for the first time this year due to the Russia-Ukraine war, will perform at the opening concert.
On November 10, Dmitri Choni (piano) and Anna Genyushina (piano), winners of the "Van Cliburn Competition," will hold their first concerts in Korea.
Im Mijeong, artistic director of the DMZ Open International Music Festival, said, "We support the World Federation of International Music Competitions, which helped hold the Horowitz Competition, previously held in Ukraine, in Switzerland," adding, "The message the DMZ Open International Music Festival conveys to the world is peace that overcomes the dark past of the DMZ and recovers."
Meanwhile, this international music festival features baritone Kim Taehan, winner of the vocal category at the "Queen Elisabeth Competition"; Roman Federico, first place at the "Horowitz International Piano Competition"; Han Jaemin (cello), winner of the "Yun Isang International Music Competition"; Kim Eunchae, winner of the "Carl Flesch International Violin Competition"; Dmitri Choni (piano); Anna Genyushina (piano); Park Hyeji (percussion); Im Heeyoung (cello); Ilya Rashkovskiy (piano); Jung Inho (bass); and Im Mijeong (piano).
