Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will promote a pilot project to install road heating cables in three snow removal vulnerable areas by November.
Road heating cables are an automatic snow removal system that installs electric heating cables 7cm below the road surface and supplies electricity to melt snow with the heat generated from the cables. When snow falls and the temperature drops, sensors that detect temperature and humidity operate automatically.
In addition, compared to electricity costs, road heating cables have excellent snow removal effects, preventing road icing during heavy snowfall and reducing environmental pollution caused by the use of calcium chloride.
Accordingly, the district conducted a full survey of steep slopes and snow removal vulnerable areas in the region from January to June this year.
As a result, three locations with a high risk of slipping accidents due to road icing in winter were selected as pilot installation sites for road heating cables: ▲ Yeongdeungpo-bondong Gochummal-gil, 580m (Yeongsin-ro 9-gil 1 to Yeongsin-ro 9-gil 25) ▲ Dorim-dong Dorim Cathedral, 160m (Doyeong-ro 22-gil 22 to Doyeong-ro 80) ▲ Daerim 1-dong slope, 260m (Daerim-ro 136 to Digital-ro 69-gil 13).
The district plans to invest 1 billion KRW in this year's budget to carry out the pilot project and analyze the effects of road heating cable installation in terms of safety, efficiency, and maintenance costs to expand the project.
In addition, as part of winter snow removal measures, the district will improve initial response capabilities by securing snow removal equipment such as automatic brine spraying devices and snow removal material spreaders, supplementing snow removal manuals, and implementing private snow removal services, striving to minimize damage to residents.
