'Barrier-Free Sharing Path' for Pedestrians with Mobility Challenges to Be Created at Icheon Oncheon Park
Icheon-si Selected for Green Fund Public Project
1.6 Billion KRW Invested for Design and Construction Starting Next Year
A 'Barrier-Free Sharing Path' for pedestrians with mobility challenges will be created at Oncheon Park located in Changjeon-dong, Icheon-si, Gyeonggi-do.
On the 24th, Icheon City announced that the Oncheon Park Barrier-Free Sharing Path project was recently selected as a target site for the Korea Forest Welfare Institute's 'Green Fund' project. The Green Fund contest project is funded by lottery proceeds and other sources, aiming to protect the forest environment and enhance forest functions.
With this selection, the city secured 980 million KRW from the Green Fund. Adding 654 million KRW from the city budget, a total of 1.634 billion KRW will be invested to create the 'Barrier-Free Sharing Path' in Oncheon Park.
The Barrier-Free Sharing Path aims to minimize forest damage and disaster risks while supporting safe and accessible forest experience activities for pedestrians with mobility challenges.

View original imageOncheon Park, established in 2011, has experienced significant deterioration, with many damaged sections of the loess-paved paths causing inconvenience to citizens and raising safety concerns. The city plans to comprehensively renovate Oncheon Park, which is frequently used by vulnerable groups and the general public, and diversify walking routes by installing wooden decks along the forest trails to provide a pleasant walking environment. The Barrier-Free Sharing Path project will begin design work next year and proceed to full-scale construction thereafter.

Kim Kyung-hee, Mayor of Icheon City, stated, "We will create a new resting place for pedestrians with mobility challenges in Oncheon Park, an urban park, while accelerating the creation of an eco-friendly green city, one of the policy tasks of the 8th administration."
