Yisang-il, Mayor of Yongin, Visits KIAT to Discuss Talent Development and Enhancing Corporate Competitiveness
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 24th that Mayor Lee Sang-il visited the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) on the 23rd to discuss ways to expand Yongin's semiconductor ecosystem.
On that day, Mayor Lee met with KIAT President Min Byung-joo and exchanged opinions on semiconductor talent development and KIAT's customized technical support plans for material, parts, and equipment (SoBuJang) companies.

We want to strengthen our cooperative relationship with KIAT, which has been providing significant support for the semiconductor industry."
He added, "KIAT plays a major role in enhancing the competitiveness of the semiconductor industry and provides substantial research and development (R&D) budget support, so I believe there will be many opportunities for communication and cooperation with Yongin City."
President Min Byung-joo responded, "KIAT is promoting projects such as infrastructure development for advanced specialized complexes, industrial talent development programs including support for master's and doctoral programs in industry-academic cooperation groups, and regulatory sandboxes. We hope that through cooperation between our two organizations, the establishment of the system semiconductor national complex, talent development, and technical support will proceed smoothly."
Mayor Lee and President Min have a history of working together as members of the same party (Saenuri Party) during the 19th National Assembly, serving on the National Assembly's Future Creation Science and Communication Committee. They also participated together as members of 'Yakjihoe,' one of the Saenuri Party's 19th National Assembly member groups.
Meanwhile, KIAT, a public institution under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, serves as a gateway for receiving private sector demands such as designation of advanced strategic technologies and regulatory improvements. It also carries out tasks such as designation of specialized complexes and support for the operation of specialized universities (graduate schools). Regarding the advanced industry semiconductor specialized complexes designated by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in July for Yongin and other areas, KIAT is responsible for establishing customized development policies for each complex and forming industry-academia-research-government councils to revitalize the specialized complexes as follow-up support.
