Presidential Office: "Claims That Kim Seung-hee Knew About Her Children's School Violence in Advance Are Not True"
President's Office Refutes Opposition Claims Through Press Release
The Presidential Office on the 23rd refuted opposition claims that it had prior knowledge of the school violence issue involving the child of former Protocol Secretary Kim Seung-hee, stating that it is "completely untrue."
The Presidential Office's spokesperson office announced this through a press release in the afternoon.
The Presidential Office emphasized, "Not only did the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education not inform the Presidential Office about the submission of materials, but the Presidential Office also did not receive any prior report from former Secretary Kim regarding this matter."
It continued, "The Presidential Office became aware of the incident on the day when Kim Young-ho, a member of the National Assembly's Education Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, raised related questions during the National Assembly audit, and took immediate personnel action on the same day," adding, "This was a preemptive measure to fundamentally prevent the possibility that the status as a public official could influence subsequent procedures such as fact-finding investigations."
Furthermore, it added, "We expect that the truth of the incident will be revealed by related institutions such as the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education," and requested, "Please refrain from raising suspicions based on vague speculation."
Earlier, on the 20th, during the National Assembly audit of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and others, Assemblyman Kim claimed that the third-grade elementary school daughter of Secretary Kim took a second-grade junior to the restroom and assaulted her with a recorder and fists, causing injuries requiring nine weeks of medical treatment.
The Presidential Office's Public Service Discipline Secretary Office launched an investigation into Secretary Kim on the same day, and Secretary Kim submitted a resignation. At that time, the Presidential Office explained that it became aware of the school violence issue involving Secretary Kim's child through reports related to Assemblyman Kim's allegations.
