Toray Advanced Materials held a groundbreaking ceremony on the 23rd for the expansion of its third carbon fiber production line at the Gumi Plant 4 located in Gumi City, Gyeongbuk Province.

View original imageThe ceremony was attended by more than 200 people, including government and local officials such as Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, National Assembly members Koo Ja-geun and Kim Young-sik, Yang Byung-nae, Deputy Minister for Trade of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and Kim Jang-ho, Mayor of Gumi, as well as Toray executives including Chairman Akihiro Nikkaku, President Mitsuo Ooya, Chairman Lee Young-kwan of Toray Advanced Materials, and President Jeon Hae-sang.
The third carbon fiber production line aims to actively respond to market demands requiring ultra-high performance, such as high-pressure hydrogen pressure vessels and urban air mobility, by supplying differentiated carbon fiber of the highest quality.
Toray Advanced Materials opened the era of mass production of carbon fiber in Korea by launching its first carbon fiber production line in 2011. With the 3,300-ton expansion of the third line, the total production capacity has reached 8,000 tons.
