Expansion of Child-Friendly Restaurants and Cafes in Seongdong-gu... Why?
Seongdong-gu Expands Seongdong Ai Sarang Restaurants and Cafes Offering Discounts for Families with Children Under 6...Incentives Increased to Promote Child-Friendly Atmosphere and Support Ai Sarang Restaurant Promotion Through Various Channels
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) is expanding the existing ‘Seongdong Ai Sarang Matjip·Cafe’ program, which offers price discounts to families with children.
‘Seongdong Ai Sarang Matjip·Cafe’ refers to restaurants and cafes that provide discount benefits to families accompanied by children under the age of six. Currently, 25 establishments are participating. This initiative began in 2018 to spread a child-friendly atmosphere that welcomes families with children and to improve public awareness.
Most participating businesses voluntarily join, empathizing with the need for a nurturing and considerate dining culture. The discount menus and rates are managed autonomously by each establishment. ‘Seongdong Ai Sarang Matjip·Cafe’ designations are made by the district office after receiving applications from business owners and conducting on-site inspections such as hygiene checks. Designated establishments receive incentives including the production of ‘Seongdong Ai Sarang Matjip·Cafe’ signboards and promotion through the Seongdong-gu website, SNS, and newsletters.
Amid growing social concerns and conflicts due to the expansion of no-kids zones, Seongdong-gu has decided to expand the Ai Sarang Matjip program. To increase business owners’ participation rates, incentives will be enhanced. In addition to existing Seongdong-gu promotional channels, various promotions for the Ai Sarang Matjip program will be conducted using influencer marketing and KakaoTalk channels.
Furthermore, to support actual sales increases for participating businesses, an integrated reservation management system that can manage various reservation platforms such as KakaoTalk, Naver, and Google will be provided for a certain period. With an AI-based system, business owners can efficiently manage customers and establish strategic business plans using objective statistical data.
A district official stated, “The Seongdong Ai Sarang Matjip·Cafe program is not only about offering price discounts but also a campaign to form a nurturing and considerate dining culture based on mutual respect.” He added, “Just as children and caregivers have the right to visit, other customers also have the right not to be disturbed. Recognizing and respecting these rights is the purpose of this inclusive nurturing culture initiative.”
Business owners wishing to participate can apply online through the Seongdong-gu Office website or submit an application to the Seongdong-gu Health and Hygiene Division or the Seongdong-gu branch of the Restaurant Association.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Rather than discriminatory restrictions based on specific age groups or demographics, a warmer and more inclusive attitude is needed throughout society.” He added, “Despite the difficult dining industry environment, I deeply thank the business owners who actively participate, and the district will do its best to establish an inclusive nurturing culture that contributes to solving the low birthrate problem.”
