On the Last Day of Mapo Naru Saeujeot Festival, 'Proud Mapo Residents' Award Ceremony
The Mapo District Office (Mayor Park Gang-su) held the '30th Residents' Day' event on the last day of the Salted Shrimp Festival, the 22nd, at 5 p.m. in the Peace Plaza of World Cup Park.
To celebrate Residents' Day, about 2,000 guests, including Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo District, members of the National Assembly, and delegations from Mapo's sister cities, Jeonbuk Gochang-gun and Busan Nam-gu, graced the occasion.
At the ceremony, a total of 13 residents received the Mapo Residents Award in the following categories: ▲Culture Award (Cha Jae-gyeong) ▲Sports Award (Lee Won-beom) ▲Brave Resident Award (Kim Hyun-seong, Lee Chang-gyeong) ▲Honored Parent Award (Lee Young-ja) ▲Filial Piety and Good Deeds Award (Kim Hoe-seon, Song Seon-rye, Kim Ok-hee) ▲Volunteer Award (Kim Ok-geun, Yoon Hwa-sik, Kim Jeong-hee) ▲Regional Development Award (Maeng Gil-jae, Ji Soon-ae).
The Mapo Residents Award was presented directly by Mayor Park Gang-su, followed by a performance by the Mapo District Boys and Girls Choir celebrating the proud awardees who have brought honor to Mapo.
In his commemorative speech for Residents' Day, Mayor Park Gang-su said, “From the development of Sangam-dong, once an old residential area with excellent transportation links, to the creation of local attractions such as Nanji Island Theme Forest Trail, Hongdae Red Road, and Mangridan-gil, the remarkable changes in Mapo over the past 30 years have been achieved together with 370,000 Mapo residents. We will not be satisfied here; Mapo will continue to strive to become a ‘better Mapo’ in all areas, from welfare for the elderly, children, and the disabled to the local economy and residents' safety.”

Meanwhile, at the conclusion of the Residents' Day event, Mayor Park Gang-su received a plaque of appreciation for his contributions to the regional development of Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, Mapo's sister city, warming the atmosphere.
