Gym Owner Fined for Slapping 6-Year-Old Child Back After Being Hit
Bruises on Child Victim's Face and Torn Lips
Court Imposes 4 Million Won Fine for Child Abuse Charges
The gym director who slapped a 6-year-old child back in anger after being slapped on the cheek was sentenced to a fine.
According to the legal community on the 21st, Han Yoon-ok, chief judge of Criminal Division 5 at Ulsan District Court, sentenced Mr. A, who was tried for violating the Child Welfare Act (child abuse) for strongly slapping the cheek of a 6-year-old boy member once at the gym he operates in April this year, to a fine of 4 million won. The victim child suffered bruises on his face and a split lip.
Mr. A said, "If you hit an adult, you must take responsibility," and "You must be hit the same way," after being slapped on the cheek unexpectedly by the child during class, and then committed the act.
The court stated the reason for the sentence, saying, "The defendant has not been forgiven by the victim's side," but also "considered that the defendant committed the act impulsively in an unusual situation where he was slapped on the cheek by a child who did not follow his instructions during class."
