Elevating Crisis Alert to 'Severe' for Bovine Lumpy Skin Disease Outbreak... Emergency Quarantine Measures Implemented
The government has raised the crisis alert level to 'Severe' and launched quarantine measures after confirming the occurrence of Lumpy Skin Disease in cattle domestically.
The Lumpy Skin Disease Central Accident Response Headquarters (CARH) held a meeting on the 20th with related agencies including the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency, and local governments to upgrade the crisis alert level. The crisis alert is adjusted to 'Attention' when the disease occurs in neighboring countries, 'Caution' when suspected cases occur domestically, and 'Severe' when occurrence is confirmed domestically.
The CARH dispatched initial response teams and epidemiological investigation units to control access to the affected farms and conduct emergency quarantine measures. To prevent transmission between farms, a temporary movement suspension order was issued from 2 p.m. on the same day for 48 hours, targeting workers and vehicles at cattle farms, slaughterhouses, feed farms, and other livestock-related facilities nationwide.

Additionally, inspections are being conducted on approximately 210 cattle farms within a 10 km radius of the affected farms, and about 160 cattle farms visited by vehicles that accessed these farms. The CARH is mobilizing disinfection resources to sanitize cattle farms and surrounding areas in five cities and counties: Seosan-si, Taean-gun, Dangjin-si, Yesan-gun, and Hongseong-gun in Chungnam Province, and plans to begin vaccination after determining the scope of Lumpy Skin Disease vaccine administration.
