[2023 Women’s Forum] Hanmi Pharm Builds 'CDC Platform' for Career Development Without Gender Distinction
Gender Equality Index Award | Minister of Employment and Labor Award
Hanmi Pharm, which received the Minister of Employment and Labor Award, has established and operates various systems to promote gender equality in the workplace. First, to prevent discrimination that applicants may face during the interview process, separate guidelines are provided to interviewers to ensure fair recruitment. As a result, the proportion of female employees at the headquarters and research center has increased to 55.7% and 45%, respectively.
Additionally, the company has built the CDC (Career Development Center) platform to enable career development regardless of gender. It supports job rotation for employees and operates advanced education programs for expert training. Employees who complete the in-house MBA program, 'H-MBA,' with excellent grades receive support for graduate school tuition for master's and doctoral degrees, and if recommended by executives to pursue higher education, the company supports graduate programs related to their work.
Among Hanmi Pharm's 39 executives, 9 are women (23%). This is nearly four times the average female executive ratio (6.3%) among the top 500 large corporations. Female executives are active in specialized fields such as global strategy, development, clinical, and research. They also manage roles traditionally held by male executives, such as factory managers and marketing/business divisions.
Selected as a family-friendly certified company in 2018, Hanmi Pharm has strived for 'work-family balance' for all employees. To encourage employees' marriages, the company provides wedding congratulatory money and allows newlywed couples without homes and families with multiple children to use in-house loans when purchasing or renting homes. Gifts for childbirth and first birthday celebrations are also provided. Parental leave and paternity leave for male employees are actively encouraged. As a result, the number of male employees taking parental leave last year increased more than sixfold compared to 2021.
The company also focuses on childcare support. It has opened an on-site daycare center and gives gifts when children enter elementary school. A system that fully reimburses university tuition fees is also in operation. Women-only lounges, nursing rooms, and nap rooms available at all workplaces are considered some of the welfare facilities with very high satisfaction among female employees.

The company has also introduced a system that forcibly shuts down computers after a set time to reduce unnecessary overtime and extra work. Since the spread of COVID-19 in 2020, the use of family care leave has also increased. It has become an opportunity to actively utilize family care leave for hospital visits of parents and children.
