Meanwhile, Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) has received positive reviews for holding a festival for senior citizens. Reflecting the increasing elderly population each year, they organized a festival dedicated to seniors.
On the afternoon of the 17th, Seongdong-gu held the 2nd Senior Citizens' Hanmadang Festival at Wangsimni Square.
Most autonomous districts in Seoul conclude simple events such as awarding senior citizens on Senior Citizens' Day.
However, Seongdong-gu expanded the event into a senior festival, providing local elderly residents with a joyful time through talent shows and more, earning applause.
The event opened with presentations of senior programs. Starting with a Nanta performance by Yongdap-dong Senior Welfare Center, a total of 8 teams and 122 participants showcased their skills learned in their spare time, including ocarina performances, choir singing, and Bultan Senior dance performances.
Next, during the commemorative ceremony for the Month of the Elderly, the mayor awarded commendations to 13 exemplary seniors and contributors to senior welfare. Following this was the 'Seongdong Senior Youth Singing Contest.' After a preliminary round in September with 90 participants, 13 teams comprising 15 seniors were finally selected to compete in a passionate contest featuring various genres from popular songs to traditional pieces and rap dance performances.
On the south side of Wangsimni Square, various booths related to senior welfare were also operated. Nine experience booths, including dementia prevention activities, healing beauty experiences, life-sustaining treatment decision system operations, and a food market, enriched the event.
This was made possible as Seongdong-gu Mayor Jung Won-oh emphasized the need to create a festival space for local seniors, revitalizing the festival this year following last year.

Regarding this, a district mayor in Seoul said, “It seems there is a reason why Jung Won-oh became a three-term mayor of Seongdong-gu,” adding, “Our district office should also prepare senior festivals twice a year, in spring and autumn, starting next year.”
