Seoul City Supports 51.2 Billion KRW for Expansion of Intelligent CCTV
New Installation of 5,515 Units at 1,640 Locations
Seoul City announced on the 18th that it will provide 51.2 billion KRW in special adjustment grants to autonomous districts to expand the installation of intelligent closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) following a series of random violent crimes (so-called "blind rage" crimes).
The city has decided to promptly support the budget for installing CCTVs to prevent crimes occurring in open areas such as parks and hiking trails (Dulle-gil).
The allocated budget will be primarily used to install CCTVs in blind spots for monitoring parks and hiking trails, such as parks without existing CCTVs, entrances and exits, forks in paths, and areas where incidents have occurred, according to each autonomous district’s own plan. In particular, intelligent CCTVs that automatically detect violence or abnormal behavior will be installed to enable rapid response in emergency situations.
The newly installed intelligent CCTVs in parks and hiking trails will cover 1,640 locations with 5,515 units. Additionally, 1,297 units at 696 locations that have exceeded their durability period and require replacement will also be upgraded to intelligent systems. Crime-vulnerable areas such as residential and commercial districts will also see CCTV expansion annually based on big data analysis and police consultations.
