President Yoon Suk-yeol congratulated Kim Jae-yeol, President of the International Skating Union (ISU) and President of Samsung Global Research, on his election as a new member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the 17th, stating, "Following the achievement of being the first non-European to be appointed as ISU President, his appointment as an IOC member marks a milestone in the history of Korean sports."
On the same day, President Yoon posted on Facebook, "I sincerely congratulate President Kim together with the people."
He added, "I hope he will play a significant role not only in the development of Korean sports but also in creating a better world through sports."
On the 17th, at the 141st IOC General Assembly held in Mumbai, India, Kim was overwhelmingly elected as a new member with 72 votes in favor and 1 against out of 73 valid votes.

Kim became the 12th Korean IOC member in history, following previous members Lee Ki-bung (1955?1960), Lee Sang-baek (1964?1966), Jang Ki-young (1967?1977), Kim Taek-soo (1977?1983), Park Jong-gyu (1984?1985), Kim Un-yong (1986?2005), Lee Kun-hee (1996?2017), Park Yong-sung (2002?2007), Moon Dae-sung (2008?2016), Yoo Seung-min (2016?present), and Lee Ki-heung (2019?present).
